About Peter Basch

I am a Technical Editor and Writer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. I have done many many things before this: actor, writer, temp… I used to perform in small theaters in NYC, and I still occasionally tell stories at The Moth. I did improv at Bang Studios, but they seem to have evaporated.

I’m a native New Yorker, who transplanted myself in 1995 for showbiz reasons. Between 1995 and 1998 I took a lot of meetings and wrote a few (too few) sample scripts to try to get work as a writer on TV. Didn’t take. But I did meet my wife, Ellen Sandler, who was a producer (TV writers get called producers at a certain level) on the hit comedy Coach. She had read a review of a play I wrote and wanted to meet me. As it happened, her first husband is a friend of mine – the brilliant actor/writer/director Peter Maloney. Cut to: married. With two amazing young-adult stepchildren.

If you’re interested in writing for TV, or any kind of professional writing, you have to check out my wife’s offerings at SandlerInk.com. Her book, The TV Writer’s Workbook, is the best book on the industry you can get. If you’re serious about your career, you have to consult with her.

Okay, that’s THIS Peter Basch. There are a few others: my late father was a Peter Basch, and his photographs are available at the Staley-Wise Gallery in New York, and Fahey/Klein here in Los Angeles. You can also find his books and photos on eBay.

So, anyway. Thanks for visiting, reading, commenting. Talk to you soon.
